Cheshta Kela

I'm currently a Masters student at the Royal College of Art

I’m passionate about exploring how interiors shape human emotions and experiences. My work blends design, psychology and philosophy to provoke thought and connection. Meticulous and reflective, I use speculative thinking and writing to communicate complex ideas.

As a designer, I believe my role is to encourage the design of interiors that prizes the understanding of space to create more accessible and transformational environments

The Psychology Ward: Technology, the Cyborg and Trauma Recovery

The result of this project is the creation of a speculative dystopian narrative titled Within-Dimensionality, unfolding in the year 3025. This narrative presents the creation of a psychiatric war, employing cyborgs as a catalyst to animate the discourse.

This project investigates the differences between the re-creation of consciousness and identity in the physical and virtual realm and its effects to the human condition and environment. This project is primarily informed by theories concerning the phenomenology of architecture as it serves as a wake-up call regarding the dangers that accompany the advancement of technologies that alter our engagement with the physical world.

Using speculative design as a method has provided a way to remark on the use of therapeutic environments. The delivery of Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is reprogrammed and spatialised as a psychiatric ward to engage with the complexity of human emotions that are present within a traumatic experience.
